Set in 18th century France, the film tells the story of an olfactory genius, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) and his homicidal quest for the perfect fragrance. The film begins with the conviction of Grenouille, a notorious murderer. Between sentencing and execution, the story of his life is told in flashback, from his abandonment at birth in a French fish market. Raised in an orphanage, Grenouille becomes a child independent strangely a superhuman sense of smell. After growing to maturity as a tanner's apprentice, makes his first delivery to Paris, where he savors new smells. He focuses on a girl selling plums (Karoline Herfurth) and surprises her with his behavior. To prevent her from screaming, covered the mouth of the girl and inadvertently suffocates him. Baldini explains all perfumes are harmonies of twelve individual essences, and may contain a thirteenth scent theory. It also tells the story of a perfume in an Egyptian tomb discovered that was so perfect that affected the whole world the moment the bottle is opened. However, when Grenouille discovers that the method of Baldini not capture all odors, he gets depressed and goes to learn higher methods Grasse. On the way to Grasse, Grenouille realizes that it has no odor of its own, and therefore a cipher. He decide that creating a perfect smell to prove his worth. Grenouille becomes unique among the orgy has created his perfume. Grenouille finds work in Grasse help perfumes. The executioner and the crowd in attendance are overwhelmed by the beauty of perfume. Grenouille declared innocent before falling into an orgy.
